Do I need a referral?
Yes a referral is required for the following:
1. If you have heavy painful or irregular periods.
2. If you have an ovarian cyst.
3. If you are experiencing peri menopausal symptoms
4. If you have any suspicious vulval or vaginal lumps or lesions.
5. If you have fibroids and are experiencing symptoms from that.
6. If you think you may have a genital prolapse and/or urinary incontinence.
7. If you are suffering with chronic pelvic pain.
8. If you are suffering with recurrent cystitis or UTIs.
9. If you are experiencing chronic bladder pain.
10. If you are experiencing post menopausal bleeding, this requires an urgent referral
What happens at the first consultation?
You may wish to bring a GP referral letter to the consultation and any previous consultations or investigations related to the gynaecological issue.
At the consultation a detailed history and abdominal and pelvic examination would be undertaken following which a discussion of your condition with a comprehensive treatment plan would be formulated including necessary investigations and treatment options.
Are treatments surgical or non-surgical?
This would largely depend on the clinical condition and relevant test results, as well as weighing up the benefits and risks of different options along with of course, most importantly your choice.
